Because of my grades and general inability to stop "keeping my options open," I've been toying with the idea of transferring to another law school (possibly one the grand city of Schmanhattan*). I visited a possible school last weekend and attended a class (I officially can't wait until I'm a 2L and can take courses like Tax and Evidence - I am a dork because I'm serious), walked around the campus and eavesdropped on some students to get a feel to for the place. I was really impressed, both with the facilities and their international programs and support for students considering non law-firm paths either initially or at some point in their careers. The students were friendly and didn't all wear power suits to class, as I had feared.
The one thing that really struck me was the immense difference geography can make in the atmosphere of a place. I am sitting in my favorite spot on campus, a cozy, cushiony window seat that overlooks the courtyard, watching people walk to class, smoke cancer sticks, and basically mill about below me, attempting to read my Constitutional Law homework for the class I have in 20 minutes and listening to Yonder Mountain String Band on my iPod. Somehow, looking at the trees, blue sky and puppy outside, I have a hard time imagining this scene in the brushed steel and glass lobby of Schmolumbia. It's not a criticism, just an observation; I might like the bustle and hustle of NYC, but would I like it day to day? Or would I start to miss the trees and grass and cozy window seats?

Shmolumbia, huh? Why not stay in Beantown and go for the gusto at Shmarvard?
I'm going to ignore that NYC comment at the end of your post and assume Schmanhattan is the alias for Minneapolis, ok?
